Transition Booklet Y2 to Y3

Our teacher is Miss Coppin and our teaching assistant is Miss Akhtar.

Curriculum Information:

In English this half term, we will begin by exploring a ‘defeating the monster tale’. We will study the features of ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ by Ronda Armitage. We will learn the text with actions, before changing key features to create our own defeating the monster tale.

Then we will plan and write our own non-fiction discussion texts. Our Author this half term is Dick King Smith; we will be reading the text ‘The Hodgeheg’.

In Maths, this half term we will be working on Fractions. We will be exploring different fractions, finding fractions of shapes and numbers. We will then begin reading clocks and telling the time.

Finally, we will explore money including adding and subtracting amounts of money.

Geography – We will be exploring the four nations that make up the United Kingdom, their flags and capital cities. We will also discover the physical features of each nation such as mountains, coasts and castles. Your child will be sent home with a knowledge organiser. Please try and learn these facts with your children as it will support their understanding in these units of work.

Enrichment Opportunities:

Throughout the year, children have been learning to play the recorder; each term we perform to all parents/carers and children’s families- the progress this year has been phenomenal! Our next concert will take place before the Easter holiday- further information will follow.

In addition to this, this year children in year 2 have worked with our artist in residence, had a visit from the fire brigade, visited Stratford-upon-Avon and seen where William Shakespeare lived and was born.

This term, we will be visiting a local mosque.

Later in the year we will be visiting a seaside.

PE days are Monday and Wednesday.

Homework is set on Friday and is due back every Tuesday.
