Hello and welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is a vital year group in all primary pupils life as pupils prepare for their future life and become secondary ready. The children work extremely hard to realise their full potential, aided by Mr Perks (Class Teacher) and Mrs Hanson.

Curriculum Information:

Our wider curriculum has been very successful this year and it has sparked their interest immensely. We feel here at Nechells that the wider curriculum is just as important to our children as the core subjects to give them understanding of the wider world.

These are some of the current units of work being covered:

  • Maths: Statistics, Measurement, Properties of shape, Ratio and proportion
  • English: Report writing, Explanation text, Narrative (Holes by Louis Sacher)
  • Science: Evolution and Inheritance
  • Geography: Population
  • Art: Photography
  • PSHE: Being in my world
  • RE: Compassion- Being regardful of suffering
  • Computing: Coding
  • Spanish: World War Two
  • PE: Street Dance, Basketball

Enrichment Opportunities:

This term we will have a visit from our local police officers who will deliver a workshop on staying safe online.

Some children will have weekly music lessons with an experienced music teacher who will continue to teach pupils how to play the drums.

We will also be welcome to attend a multi-games after school club with Mr Fair our sports coach and booster sessions.

Later this year,  we will be providing our pupils with the opportunity to visit the Isle of Wight with our UKSA Sailing Residential as they missed this opportunity in Year 5 due to COVID-19.

Key Dates:

Pupils must come to school wearing their PE kits on a Thursday; we will hold our PE lessons on this day.

Homework is set on Friday and is due back every Tuesday.

Whole class booster sessions will continue on a Monday and Wednesday until 4:15pm.
